Non-Toxic Gifts For Him
He swapped the non-stick pans. He reads the back of the packet. He will not microwave anything in plastic.
Then he puts on gym shorts made from petroleum and trains in them for an hour.
The gap in his routine.
Most men who care about what goes into their body have never thought about what goes onto it. Activewear is the blind spot, and it is the worst possible one, because you wear it when your body is hottest and your pores are open.
A gift that closes that gap lands differently from another gadget. It is the thing he would have bought himself if he had known.

He filters his water and then sweats into a bottle for an hour a day.
What to look for on the label.
Check the liner, not the shell
Brands lead with the outer fabric because that is the number that flatters them. The liner is the part held against skin for the whole session, and it is almost always synthetic mesh.
Percentages do not save it
Five per cent elastane still sheds, still traps heat, and still decides how long the garment lasts. A number next to a synthetic is not a compromise. It is a plastic.
Certification, not adjectives
GOTS and RWS are audited standards with published requirements. Words like natural and clean are not. If a brand names neither, it has neither.
The one he will actually wear.
The Active Merino Liner Short. A 100% GOTS organic cotton shell with a 100% merino liner at 17.5 micron sitting next to skin, where it regulates temperature and resists odour.
No polyester. No nylon. No elastane. The drawcord is cotton, because a synthetic one costs pennies less and almost every brand takes the pennies.
Two inseams, five sizes, four colourways including undyed.
If he trains in a hot gym.
The Merino Air T-Shirt. A 150gsm open knit of merino and Tencel that dumps heat rather than holding it in, and resists odour well enough to wear back to back.
Tencel is spun from wood pulp in a closed loop that recovers over 99.8% of its solvent. Not petroleum.
Three colourways, black, carbon and burnt clay. Available in packs.
The one closest to his skin.
The All Natural Boxer. 100% GOTS organic cotton, no elastane holding it together, nothing synthetic against him at all.
Underwear is the layer worn longest and thought about least. It is also the cheapest thing on this list, which makes it the easiest place to start.
Ninety-nine days to decide.
If it is not right, send it back. No questions. That takes the risk out of buying clothing for someone else, which is the whole reason gifting clothes is difficult.
Wear it. Train in it. Wash it.
The short version
He has already done the hard part. He reads labels, he avoids plastic in the kitchen, he thinks about what goes into his body. Nobody has told him the same logic applies to what he trains in.
If you want the full argument, we wrote it up in why polyester is used in activewear at all, and the research on hormones is on our testosterone page.
